Underwater photography with Carmine Arrichiello

Carmine Arrichiello is an underwater photographer based in Italy. He developed a passion for photography at an early age. When an interest in sports took root, diving had a special appeal as a sport he could combine with his photography. Carmine uses Nimar Underwater Housing on his Phase One XF Camera System. Watch him in action in the video below. Shooting underwater photography “Personally, the most appealing thing about shooting underwater is being able to dive into a world without external sounds. The very moment in which the photographer is with his subject turns into a magical experience: unique and enchanting. “Personally, the most appealing thing about shooting underwater is being able to dive into a world without external sounds. “ The essential thing when planning an underwater shoot is to first decide the subject of your project. Next, choose if you will take macro or landscape pictures and so prepare the lens and lens port you’ll need. When it comes to underwater housing, the most important characteristic is to be able to use it …

Fritz Hansen shoot with the XF 100MP Camera System

Shot from the Heart: On Set with Republic of Fritz Hansen

The world-renowned interior design company, Fritz Hansen, show us how an iconic brand plans and executes a photo shoot using a Phase One XF 100MP Camera System. We get the inside track from three creative minds who know how to make a brand shine. The Visual Department’s Perspective Insights from the mastermind of the Fritz Hansen ‘look’, Mie Sandfeld, Visual Department Representative. “All photo shoots begin with a brief – here we state which products we are going to take pictures of. Next, we need both to consider the purpose of the images and the target group. This is very important to make sure the images display our products in the right way – both practically with angles etc., but also emotionally to catch the viewer’s attention and hopefully get a positive reaction from them.” Planning the Shoot “When planning this photoshoot, it was important for us to consider the overall “theme” (look and feel), as well as which products would be most relevant to take pictures of. For us, the most important aspect of …

Fashion photographer, Giampaolo Sgura shooting with the XF Camera System and the Schneider Kreuznach 120mm lens

Fashion photography with Giampaolo Sgura

Giampaolo Sgura shoots for big names in the fashion world, including Vogue and GQ magazine. But it wasn’t always so. Coming from an agricultural background, he studied architecture, although he always knew that his heart was in fashion. We talk to him about how he made the leap into the fashion world and what inspires him. Driven by origins “I’ve learned a lot from my father, whose background is in agriculture. It’s in the way I work with people, the way I relate to them, my way of respecting everybody on set. I feel lucky to have such a great job. My father was always smiling even when his machines were stuck or broken. He’d be happy to fix it and make sure he was not losing days of work in his field and come back home to us proud of his day at work. Coming from this background you appreciate life, sun and respect.” From architecture to fashion “I studied architecture in Milan and Berlin but during those five years I have been studying …

Timo Lieber shooting with the Phase One XF 100MP and the IQ3 digital back and the Schneider Kreuznach 120mm LS f/4.0 Macro and the Schneider Kreuznach 80mm LS f/2.8.

Aerial photography: Capturing the Arctic’s Transformation

Capturing extraordinary natural phenomena in a resounding way is something many artists and photographers strive to achieve with their work. But capturing a wonder of nature that’s eroding away all too rapidly brings with it a sense of urgency and – in Timo Lieber’s majestic work – poignancy. Timo’s THAW series focuses on the rapidly disappearing Arctic ice sheets, using aerial photography to capture vast icescapes using the XF Camera System with IQ3 100MP Digital Back. Fine art aerial photography “Having travelled to the Arctic numerous times and having seen the rate of change there, I have long wanted to capture the impact of global warming on the Arctic and translate it into striking photographic images. The Greenland ice sheet has been losing mass rapidly over the past few years and it is a major contributor to global sea-level rise – undoubtedly escalated by man’s contribution to global warming. It is currently losing an estimated 380,000,000,000 tonnes of ice annually. Yes, that is a 12-digit figure. “THAW is a collaboration between photography and the scientific work of …

Food photographer, Tanya Zouev took over our Instagram account with the XF Camera Body, the 645DF+ body, IQ2 60MP Digital Back, Schneider Kreuznach 55mm, 80mm, 120mm macro and 150mm

Delicious food photography with Tanya Zouev

Food photographer, Tanya Zouev, treated us with mouthwatering shots when she took over our Instagram account. “I will occasionally collaborate on a test shoot with a stylist or chef if a great idea pops into my head (and if I can find the time to execute it). I had an idea to shoot a naked cake so I asked dessert chef Jun Chen make this one especially for me. I might add quickly here that a love of food is essential for beautiful food photography. “A connection to your subject matter and a love of cooking will bring you way more success than to someone who just points their lens at a plate of food because a job happened to come along that involved something edible.” The naked cake was shot on an XF body and an IQ2 60MP Digital Back with a Schneider Kreuznach 120mm macro lens and Profoto D1 strobes. Most of my lighting techniques are based on replicating natural light whether it be diffused window light or direct sunlight. Sometimes I layer scrims, …
